German Bonnier Group is launching Gutkind Verlag, a new publishing house that will operate independently. The house will publish fiction and nonfiction books, with the first titles planned for 2024. Ulrike von Stenglin will join as founder and manager. She returns to Bonnier after positions at Ullstein and Hanser. Imprints: Paw Prints Readers
Baker & Taylor’s Paw Prints Publishing will add a new imprint this fall called Paw Prints Readers. “Paw Prints Readers will publish works exploring diverse cultures and backgrounds,” the publisher says in a release. “Emerging readers will evolve through Paw Prints Readers’ four-leveled program aimed at ages four through seven and up.” The imprint will launch with two new series and seven titles in English and Spanish including: Liline & Pepper by Samanka Dumond; Jeet and Fudge by Amandeep Kochar; and Queens of STEAM by Mari Bolte.
Imprints: Ten Speed Graphic
This fall Ten Speed Press will launch Ten Speed Graphic, an imprint dedicated to publishing graphic “literary adaptations, global webcomics, biography, memoir, history, how-to, fiction, and licensed entertainment titles.” The first book, a graphic adaptation of Hide by Kiersten White, will be released on September 12, followed by five other titles that season: an adaptation of Richard Adams’s classic novel Watership Down; George R. R. Imprints: Open Road’s Re-Discovery Lit
Open Road has launched an imprint devoted to republishing out-of-print and reverted titles, Re-Discovery Lit. They expect to reissue about 200 titles a year, publishing primarily in ebook format, though titles will be available in print-on-demand editions as well. Mara Anastas, who is publisher of the imprint, says in the announcement, “Agents and writers everywhere have been excited to learn of this new opportunity for out-of-print and reverted works.” Authors on the list include Barbara Delinsky, Clifford D. Imprints: Hardie Grant North America Launches Bright Light
The North America division of Australian publisher Hardie Grant has launched a new children’s imprint called Bright Light. Leading the line are publishing director Marisa Pintado, publisher Chren Byng, and art director Pooja Desai. A release states that they will publish “inclusive stories created by authors and illustrators from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.” They aim to publish 15 to 20 titles a year, starting in fall 2023 with eight picture books. Odd Dot Partners with Build-A-Bear
Macmillan Children’s imprint Odd Dot will partner with Build-A-Bear to publish board books, picture books, chapter books, and sticker and activity books featuring the brand’s characters, including Honey Girls and Glisten and the Merry Mission, which are also adapted to film. The first titles will be out in spring 2024. Foundation Media Partners orchestrated the deal, and will handle the partnership on Build-A-Bear’s behalf.
