Perseus Books Group imprint Seal Press is being aligned within the company, moving from its historical place as part of the Avalon Group — Avalon Publishing purchased Seal in 2002 — to a more practical alignment with PBG’s Da Capo Press, where Seal will be an imprint. As a result, the publisher position is being eliminated, and publisher since 2005 Krista Lyons will leave the company on July 1. Oprah Winfrey’s memoir THE LIFE YOU WANT — originally slated as the lead title in her new imprint for Flatiron Books and scheduled for publication in January 2017 — has been postponed. Instead, the line will launch on January 3 with a cookbook from Winfrey that ties in to her stake in Weight Watchers: FOOD, HEALTH AND HAPPINESS: ‘On Point’ Recipes for Great Meals and a Better Life. Previously she was an agent at the Stuart Krichevsky Literary Agency. Erin Simpson has been promoted to senior agent at the Penguin Random House Speakers Bureau. Patti Hughes, vp, distribution publishing and special sales at Macmillan, died June 12 of complications from cancer. Small Decline In Wiley’s Fourth Quarter

Wiley reported fourth quarter and full fiscal year results on Tuesday morning, with final quarter sales falling $7 million, to $434 million, and sales for the year declining $95.5 million, to $1.727 billion. The same factors that held back fiscal 2016 results — foreign exchange losses due to the weak British pound, and continuing declines in book publishing, balanced out by gains from shifting to time-based journal subscription agreements — leave the company with guidance of “flat” sales and declining adjusted earnings per share, falling “by mid single-digits.” They expect “marginally lower operating income due to the continued book decline and investment […]
