Register of Copyrights Perlmutter Reinstated by Appeals Court
Copyright Office director Shira Perlmutter, who was removed by the Trump administration in May, will have her job temporarily reinstated while her lawsuit over her firing moves forward. In July, a district court judge denied her request for a preliminary injunction to go back to her position. In a 2-1 decision, Judges Pan and Childs of the DC Circuit Court of Appeals called her case “unusual” and “extraordinary,” noting that “the President’s removal of Perlmutter was likely unlawful.” Perlmutter has argued that, as a legislative employee, the executive branch does not have the power to fire her. Forthcoming: Colleen Hoover’s ‘Woman Down’
Amazon Publishing’s Montlake will publish Colleen Hoover‘s next novel, WOMAN DOWN, on January 13. The thriller follows an author who goes to a remote cabin to finish her manuscript and finds a muse in a detective that shows up with “disturbing news.” Hoover has published many titles with Montlake, including most recently REMINDERS OF HIM (2022) and LAYLA (2020).

Obituary: Ben Bruton
Ben Bruton, who owned book publicity firm Ben Bruton PR, has died. Prior to launching his own company in 2016 he was senior director of publicity at William Morrow, and also worked at Atria Books, Doubleday and Nan A. Talese Books, Putnam, and Riverhead.
