Susan Hobson has been appointed director of international rights at McCormick & Williams Literary Agency. Macmillan Audio has hired Robert Allen as editorial director, effective immediately. Most recently he was a co-founder of Brands-to-Books, after serving as publisher of Random House Audio. A memorial service has been announced for book marketing and sales consultant Jim Sutton, on December 5 at 2:00 pm at Christ Lutheran Church in Baltimore. This time it’s mattress executive Bill Dandy who joins the bookseller as svp, marketing, reporting to cmo Mike Edwards, after a three-year stint as evp of marketing at Mattress Firm. Sydny Miner is moving to Crown Publishers as executive editor, starting December 14 and reporting to publisher Tina Constable. She will acquire practical advice, how-to, health, and fitness books, as well as memoirs. Miner was a senior editor at Simon & Schuster, where she worked for 26 years. Brandon Proia joins Mary Anne Thompson Associates as a scout on November 30. He has been an associate editor at Basic. Harper Children’s executive editor Susan Rich has joined Little, Brown Children’s in the new position of editor-at-large, where she will edit the new series from Lemony Snicket, the YA novel by Daniel Handler, and other titles.
