Penguin Says It Did Its Due Diligence On ‘The Salt Path’
Further to Monday’s story about fraud accusations against Raynor Winn’s bestselling memoir The Salt Path, Penguin commented that they undertook “all the necessary pre-publication due diligence.” They also said they had not received “any concerns about the book’s content” before The Observer investigation. The Observer piece alleges that the book contains substantial fabrication, and omits that Winn embezzled from her employer and was involved in a fraudulent money raising scheme, among many other accusations. Obituary: Katie Cunningham
Nosy Crow publisher Katie Cunningham, 43, died on July 4 following complications of ovarian cancer. She joined Nosy Crow in March, after a long career at Candlewick Press, where she started as an intern in 2003 and rose to become svp, editorial and associate publisher. Titles she developed went on to win a Stonewall Book Award, a Schneider Family Book Award, a Michael L. Printz Honor Award, and the Kirkus Prize, among other accolades. Forthcoming: ‘Hostage’ by Eli Sharabi
Harper Influence will publish HOSTAGE by Eli Sharabi, on October 7 in the US. The book, which was originally published in Hebrew by Sella Meir Press, details the 491 days Sharabi was held captive by Hamas following the attack on October 7, 2023, and includes his transportation into Gaza, his experience with his captors, and the relationships he formed with other hostages.
