Bookselling: New Ownership For Elliott Bay Book Company

Elliott Bay Book Company in Seattle has been sold to Tracy Taylor, the general manager of 32 years, as well as married couple Murf Hall and Joey Burgess, who own bars and businesses in the neighborhood. The sale was finalized on June 1. Amazon to Discontinue Kindle In China

Amazon announced today that it will stop supplying retailers in China with Kindle ereaders this week, and plans to shutter its ebookstore there in June 2023. In 2024, the Kindle App will be removed from stores and users will no longer be able to access digital books they have purchased. Chinese customers who purchased a Kindle device in 2022 have been offered a refund. Reuters reports that the company said it’s “adjusting the strategic focus of its operations” but that its other remaining businesses in China will continue. AP Stylebook Updates Recommendations for Inclusive Storytelling

The 56th edition of The Associated Press Stylebook, released on Wednesday, includes updated guidance for reporting on race, gender, disability, and more, as well as a new chapter on inclusive storytelling, Poynter reports. Among the updates are recommendations to capitalize Deaf when referring to the Deaf community and to use they/them/their as much as possible for individuals who use those pronouns. The Stylebook recommends avoiding the acronym CRT when discussing critical race theory, and using “terrorism” only when attributed to authorities or discussing historical events. “Supervised injection sites,” “safe injection sites” and “overdose prevention” can now be used interchangeably, as can […]

Imprints: Post Hill Press Launches Twin Flame

Post Hill Press is launching Twin Flame, a new nonfiction imprint focused on “spirituality, tantra, relationships, and sexuality for worldwide distribution.” Elena Vega will lead as editorial director. Vega was previously an editor at Macmillan and Simon & Schuster, as well as a freelance editor for Post Hill Press. The imprint plans to publish “two dozen books per year.”
