Knopf Doubleday has announced a number of promotions in the division’s publicity department. Michiko Clark has been promoted to director of publicity, Pantheon & Schocken, while Michelle Somers moves up to associate director of publicity. Josie Kals has been promoted to publicity manager, Knopf & Pantheon, while also taking on added responsibility for the division’s poetry program. Elizabeth Lindsay and Erica Hinsley both move up to publicist, while Erinn McGrath has been promoted to associate publicist. Tech: Ingram’s New Tool for Independent Publishers; Libre Rolls Out Digital Distribution; BookScout Adds Mobile; 3M Provides Daily Data;

Ingram will launch a new self-service “publish-on-demand” platform for independent publishers, IngramSpark, this summer. It combines their Lighting Source (print-in-demand) and Core Source (digital asset distribution) services in a single toolset, to manage print and ebook distribution under one umbrella. General Manager of Ingram Publisher Services Mark Ouimet says “independent publishers will now have access to Ingram’s reach, enabling them to affordably print copies, distribute books to global retailers, make titles available to all major e-readers and connect with more customers worldwide.” After the initial launch, Ingram plans to add versions of some of their other services to the platform, including MyiLibrary […]

BEA-Timed Announcements: S&S Streamlines Promo Funds for Indies; Penguin Sells Books on Wheels; PublicAffairs Pairs with The Economist; Ingram Partners with Courier; and More

Simon & Schuster is expanding its offerings to booksellers with a new “premier marketing plan” that simplifies access to promotional funds for independent booksellers. They will bolster that new plan on June 10 with a new customer portal that consolidates marketing/co-op information, order tracking, invoices and digital catalogs. Independently owned and operated brick and mortar bookstores with a maximum of 15 shipping destinations qualify for the new allowances, which replace traditional and newsletter co-op, and eliminate existing co-op approval procedures. Perseus and WME Sponsor Book Discovery App “Hackathon”

Perseus and William Morris Endeavor are organizing a content to help motivate programmers to develop some kind of digital innovation–a web site, app or widget–to help expose booklovers to new book titles online. A 36-hour Publishing Hacka-thon will begin May 18 at co-working space The Alley NYC. The finalists will move on to a presentation at BEA, judgd by Perseus ceo David Steinberger, William Morris Endeavor’s Jennifer Rudolph Walsh, and Stephen Evans at private equity firm Silver Lake (which owns a stake in WME). The prize is $10,000, and a pitch meeting with WME’s ceo Ari Emanuel. Crains

At the Columbia Publishing Course, longtime director Lindy Hess is taking a leave due to health issues, with assistant director Susan Caplan running the program during her absence. At Trident Media Group, Mark Gottlieb has been promoted to audio rights agent. Kate Rados has joined the Crown Publishing Group in the new role of director of community development, reporting to director of marketing Jill Flaxman. Previously she was group digital marketing director for F+W Media. Emily Davis has been promoted to assistant marketing manager, reporting to Rados.
